Cat collar camera FAQ

-
What kind of battery does the collar use and how long does it last? The battery is a round coin cell like is used in a watch. You can turn the light on and off when you need it. Battery life depends on whether you use the collar in steady Glow mode or the blink mode. If only used at night, the blink mode with last for months. The tiny watch battery can be replaced easily when needed.
-
Does the light attract predators like coyotes? No. Coyotes and dogs are color blind to red/yellow and orange colors. Also, coyotes do not associate lights with food. Moving lights scare them away rather than attract them.
-
When will the new cat collar cameras be ready? The new cat collar camera in new colors will be available February 2021. Supplies with be limited. If sold out, get on the Waiting List or email here. The new design and colors will be for sale here first, then on Amazon in Spring 2021.
-
Do Glow Track Collars glow in the dark?Yes, these cat collarss are designed to both glow and blink. Our collars get their light from a single LED which lights up a strip in the collar so you can see your cat in the dark. Even if you forget to click the button to turn the LED light on, the reflective shiny silver border also catches light so your cat is safe from cars and easy to spot day or night.
-
Do Glow Track Cat Collars have GPS tracking units built in?If you are sure you want GPS after reading the RF vs GPS link above, we suggest the JOIBIT GPS tracking system for cats. We are working on a better system than GPS --which cannot find cats if they are under things (such as under cars, houses, down storm drains, or anything even blocked by buildings or steel. Our new cat tracking system will be significantly smaller than the current GPS pet tracking units, and the battery will last months instead of days.
-
When will the new collar colors be available? We are adding yellow, white, red and pink in addition to our classic safety orange for 2021. The new breakaway LED collar and the pet collar video camera will be ready for your cat (or dog) in late January 2021. If you know someone who might like seeing the world from their cat or dog's POV, get them a Glow Track Collar with camera and enjoy the footage from afar!
-
What if the collor or camera gets snagged on a branch or something? The Glow Track collar is breakaway because it's a gentle wrap style so it slides off if caught on something and simply spins around if they try to push it off. In testing trials throughout 2020, even confirmed collar escape artist cats kept this collar on! The camera has a friction-fit safety snap so it will pop off if there is pressure. If the collar is snagged, the camera will stay in place and slide off with it. Should this ever happen, both are easy to spot thanks to the bright color and flashing light.
-
Does the kitty cat collar camera also work on a cat harness?Yes, the Glow Track "Cat cam" has a clip that lets you add it to nearly any style cat harness so your Adventure Cat can be extra safe and still use his mini "Cat GoPro" video camera. If you want to use this as a dog camera collar, keep in mind, dogs play rough and tumble so they are more likley to knock it off kilter. this "catcam" is definitely made with cats in mind.
-
How does the RF cat tracking tag work?In terms of the RF tracking device, you would use it like you would a beacon, sort of like how they track bird migrations. They "tag" birds and use the transmitter to keep up with where they are. But since this is miles and not continents, you will have a handheld receiver that finds the tag on the collar. A SIM card is only needed for GPS --which based on my research is not an ideal tracking methodology for cats or any animal who hides or hangs out under things. Here's an article about it if curious to know the difference in cat tracking collars between GPS and RF systems: https://www.glowtrackcollars.com/gps-tracking-collars-rf

How wide is this collar?About 3/4 of an inch including soft reflective border. Wide enough to be seen from a distance AND won’t disappear into neck fur So why is it wider than most collars? So you can see the light and your cat's locatoin from any angle. Also since most cats will not allow themselves to be picked up by a stranger the light and large ID needs to be visible from a distance. Cats wearing tags can’t get home if no one can pick them up to read the info. This allows giant letters that can be read standing up or while cat eats. Simply Write your name and number on the collar with a sharpie or use permanent stick-on letters.
-
How does the cat camera record video?Videos taken on your cat camera collar are recorded onto a micro SD card. You can watch the videos two ways" plus the cable into your computer, watch on TV or pull out the SC card and internet into the USB card reader include with the Collar camera. The micro SD can be 8GB, 16GB or up to 32GB. We recommend a high speed class 10 card such as this dependable Lexar HC-1 for around $6 on Amazon: https://amzn.to/3cdd8x1 which is a good card at a great price. Don't go higher than a 32GB as the tiny camera cannot handle a card that big. A 32GB card can hold months of your cat's collar camera footage.
